Delaware Airport
and Travel Information
Are you looking for information on Delaware airports, driving info, and train station... as well as information for flights to New Castle, Delaware?
Well, needless to say you have found it!
Traveling to Delaware should be fun and relaxing.
No matter if you are traveling for a Summer Vacation or Winter Getaway. Delaware can offer you a beautiful year around experience.
"Flights To Delaware"
If you plan to fly to Delaware then you have a choice of 2 International Airports as well as a smaller Delaware Airport located in New Castle, Delaware.
Plane flights into New Castle, Delaware are smaller compared to the International Airports.
Even though the airport is called New Castle Airport you may see different flights being schedule to fly into Wilmington, DE as you make flight reservations.
Relax, it is still the same Delaware airport. On this page I will call it "New Castle Delaware Airport" to keep down confusion.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Baltimore International Airport (BWI) are equally located from the Delaware. They are both approximately 45 minutes outside of Delaware on Interstate-95.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is 45 minutes North of Delaware and Baltimore International Airport (BWI) is 45 min. East of Delaware.
Tip: Make sure you compare prices on tickets against all 3 airports because one will end up cheaper than the other!
Hey I'm just trying to save you money. ;-)
New Castle Delaware Airport (ILG) consists of smaller passenger flights into Wilmington. The only major name airlines they have right now is Delta Air Lines
and they are flying 40 - 50 passenger jets.
The New Castle Delaware Airport (ILG) has a major advantage and that is you don't have to get on I-95 to drive there and you don't have to drive outside of Delaware to fly.
"Driving"
Driving through Delaware is pretty simple just remember this... Route 1 takes you basically from north to south and Interstate 95 takes you northeast to southwest in Delaware.
I-95 only goes through New Castle County at the north end of Delaware.
So you will only be in Delaware for 30 minutes before you leave again. People actually thought that driving through Delaware takes 30 minutes...actually it's a lot longer once you get off I-95!
To help you get around makes sure you use a map!
I personally like the "Map" and "Hybrid" feature on
Delaware State Maps
because it shows you a true satellite image with the street names, so you can see in reality where you are going.
Don't forget to take a look at the
zip code page
so you can get pinpoint directions to where you want to go when you get here.
Make sure you have some money on you to pay for the tolls. Delaware Memorial Bridge has a $3.00 toll but only on the 295 south bound lane coming out of New Jersey.
There is also a toll on Interstate-95 on the Delaware / Maryland State Line.
And two $1.00 tolls on Route 1 located around Delaware City Delaware and Dover, DE.
Last but not, pay attention when NASCAR is having it's races in Dover Delaware.
Many people drive to Dover, Delaware for the NASCAR Races in campers. That is the only time when Route 1 is bumper to bumper in and around Dover.
Race fans begin showing up in their campers 2-weeks before the actual races and most hotels are usually booked up if you don’t have a reservation!
TIP: Even the people that live here stay out of Dover, Delaware during the race weekend... BUT that is only if they are not intending on going to the Races!
"Train Station"
The train station has a Hertz Rental located on the 1st floor. So if you plan to come here you can have a car already reserved when you step off the tracks.
Also the train station is about 15 minutes from New Castle Airport (ILG).
Amtrak goes right through Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Wilmington, Delaware, which is located in New Castle County.
I have used Amtrak a lot when I go to visit Manhattan, New York from Wilmington, Delaware...the train ride actually takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Driving to Manhattan, New York takes about 3 - 4 hours from Delaware, BUT then you have to deal with parking and traffic when you get there!
